Burning Kale Smoothie

32oz smoothie


  • A few leaves of kale
  • 2 celery stalks (3 or 4 if pre-packaged)
  • 1 lemon
  • 1 apple
  • 1 Cucumber (optional)
  • Cayenne pepper

Other ingredients

  • Salt
  • Ice cubes


Mise en Place

  1. Wash all produce
  2. Cut the apple into small pieces
  3. Slice the celery and cucumber into small pieces
  4. Cut lemon and squeeze juice into blender


  1. Add apples, celery and cucumbers (if they fit) to the blender. Then blend to make room for the kale.

  2. Add a couple ice cubes. Pack kale down. Add a pinch of salt and cayenne pepper. Start with a little, it gets spicy pretty fast. Blend.

  3. Taste. Top with a sprinkle of cayenne, if you want more heat. Enjoy!

Other Comments

One of my favorite green smoothies. I often forgo the cucumber unless I’m cooking something else, because a half cucumber doesn’t keep long.

Cyanne pepper is one of those things that gets exponentially hotter the more you use. If you’re unsure start with a small amount. You can always stir in more later.
